Naturals Night Out

Naturals Night Out was so much fun!! Naturalistas and those of us with the “creamy crack” came out to get healthy hair tips, hear about the latest makeup trends, get a glimpse at the fashions for the coming season or even purchase a few items from one of the local vendors. All proceeds were given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital; good fun for a good cause.

You’re probably wondering why I’m even discussing this event on my blog since it was all about hair, fashion, and makeup, and I’m supposed to be giving you the “tea” on  workplace stuff. Well I’ll tell you; this event was filled with so many ebony working girls doing what they do best – entrepreneurs, models, dancers, authors, hair stylists, designers, make up artists,  and executives; it was sooooo inspirational. It also helped that we touched on fashion, hair, and makeup that could be worn in the workplace. I was soaking up the experience so much that I almost forgot a few times that I was supposed to be working so I could share these tips with y’all.

The event kicked off with VIP ticket holders attending a makeup class by none other than Tie Cooper (www.tiecooper.com). She called it the Parisian Effect because she shared all the makeup trends and tips that she picked up while on vacation in Paris, France. To put it in a nutshell: less is more!  No more heavy contouring and highlighting – keep your makeup very subtle. Here are more highlights (no pun intended!!)

  1. very natural and simple; neutral colors

  2. red lips to emulate a youthful look

  3. small amount of eye liner

  4. no blush

  5. brush your eyebrows to get hairs in place; only fill in missing spots with hair like strokes; no harsh lines

  6. heavy mascara but no false lashes; however, Chanel showcased models with lashes on the bottom which gave a baby doll appearance – this puts emphasis on their desire to look youthful. I suggest you get a professional to install if you want to try this look because you will look CRAZY if you don’t know what you’re doing!! (This one isn’t for me; I’ll pass!!)

Peace out Emoji

The main event started after Tie’s class. She transitioned from instructor to MUA to get the models ready. This is where hair and fashion were showcased. The hair tips were common sense stuff that we know we should do, but we don’t – like washing our hair at least once per week. We shouldn’t go beyond 7 days without washing our hair; our hair craves moisture so it thrives from consistent washing. And conditioning without heat does absolutely nothing for us. We must either sit under the dryer or use a plastic bag to condition our hair. Many of the stylists shared that they don’t use combs and brushes; they use their fingers to style because those tools are damaging to the hair. I don’t know anything more than that about hair so I’ll stop right here. I can connect you with someone if you have any follow-up questions.

The fashion spoke for itself. I was so impressed by these women and what they were able to create, and the models did a wonderful job showing off their designs. Work attire, evening attire, party attire; it was all there.

Two fashion lines participated in the fashion show: BCoco and Meow and Barks. Bcoco is an emerging line with fun clothes that can be worn at work or play. We all need work/life balance right?? Because this is a new line, I don’t have any contact info, but I will be sure to post it as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Meow and Barks is a fashion boutique with stores in Jacksonville, FL and Atlanta, GA ( http://meowandbarksboutique.storenvy.com/). They also have fun and fashionable designs. Check them out!!

Whew! That was a lot, but I wanted to share as much as possible without writing a very lengthy essay. If you have any questions, additional tips, or other businesses that we can support, please sound off in the comments below. Thanks for stopping by!
